Pune Metro Line 3 Faces Another Delay, Unlikely to Launch Before 2026

Pune – 17th April – The wait for Pune Metro Line 3 — connecting Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar — just got longer. Despite earlier plans to begin operations by April 2025, the project has been delayed once again, and services are now unlikely to begin before March 2026.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) had already extended the deadline to September 2025, but officials now say the elevated 24-km corridor is far from complete. Trial runs are expected only in early 2026, pushing the actual launch further into the year.

Project developers Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Pvt. Ltd. (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures have requested PMRDA for another extension, citing the need for additional time to complete construction. They’ve proposed a new deadline of March 2026, according to a report by the Free Press Journal.

This isn’t the first time the project deadline has been revised. Originally targeted for February 2025, the timeline was pushed to September 2025 last year. Now, with yet another extension request on the table, PMRDA officials have stated that a final decision will be made after a joint review meeting with the contractors.

The continuous delays have left many Punekars disappointed, particularly residents and commuters from Hinjewadi, Baner, and Shivajinagar, who had hoped for some relief from daily traffic congestion. The extended timeline means they’ll have to wait even longer for a smoother, faster commute.
