Pune: Crackdown on Illegal Land Plotting – Criminal Offences to be Filed Soon

Pune, March 24 – Maharashtra State Revenue Minister Chandrashekar Bawankule announced on Monday that the state government will file criminal cases within the next fortnight against individuals involved in illegal land plotting in Pune, particularly in hilltop and hill slope areas.

Responding to a query raised by BJP MLC Yogesh Tilekar during the assembly session at the State Legislative Council, Chandrashekar Bawankule stated that despite repeated demolition drives, some offenders continue illegal plotting. To curb this, the government will take stricter action, including criminal proceedings.

A special committee comprising police officers, forest department officials, and other authorities will be formed to prevent unauthorized constructions. The administration has already demolished illegal structures, including concrete roads and tin sheds, in restricted areas.

Tilekar highlighted that private individuals have violated revenue department norms by developing small illegal plots near Satara Road, leading to unregulated businesses. He warned that this not only damages civic infrastructure but also endangers public safety. With the development plan for 23 merged villages still pending approval, offenders are exploiting loopholes to sell unauthorized plots, often duping buyers from economically weaker sections.

Chandrashekar Bawankule also assured that steps are being taken to fast-track Yewalewadi’s development plan, which will help in better planning and regulation of such areas.
