Pune is all set to witness a significant upgrade in its railway infrastructure, with 12 stations in the district chosen for a major makeover under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The nationwide initiative aims to modernise railway stations and enhance passenger amenities across India.

Railway Minister Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw made the announcement during a press conference on Saturday, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Fadnavis Sir also in attendance.

The stations selected for redevelopment include Pune Junction, Shivajinagar, Lonavla, Baramati (INR 11 crore), Daund (INR 44 crore), Kedgaon (INR 12 crore), Akurdi (INR 34 crore), Chinchwad (INR 20 crore), Dehu Road (INR 8 crore), Talegaon (INR 40 crore), Hadapsar (INR 25 crore) and Uruli (INR 13 crore).

As part of the revamp, these stations will be equipped with modern passenger amenities such as waiting lounges, food courts, lifts, escalators, upgraded toilets, and digital information systems. Aesthetic beautification and integration with improved commuting facilities are also on the agenda.

Apart from Pune, several key railway stations across Maharashtra—including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Parbhani, Dadar (Western and Central), Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Sangli, Nagpur, Solapur, and Satara will also undergo redevelopment under the scheme, along with various rural stations across the state.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is part of Indian Railways’ larger vision to transform travel infrastructure, making stations more passenger-friendly and future-ready.
